Closest Kitesurf Spots

Preá’s main beach is the go-to spot for kitesurfing, with many pousadas and kite centers offering direct beachfront access. The wind here is strong, making it ideal for big air and long sessions. Riders often enjoy downwinders heading west toward Jeri, or coming to Preá from further east, where it is possible to enjoy some remote beaches. Just outside the village, quieter stretches of coastline allow for less crowded sessions and open space for progression.

Kitesurfing Conditions for Beginners

Although Preá is known for its strong winds, beginners can still find good learning conditions, especially in the morning when the wind is lighter. Several well-established kite schools operate in the area, offering high-quality instruction and all necessary equipment. Protective sandbanks during low tide create shallow areas that are helpful for those just getting started.

Infrastructure

Preá has seen a steady rise in tourism infrastructure while keeping its authentic vibe. You’ll find a growing selection of beachfront pousadas, boutique hotels, kite camps, and international kite schools. There are also yoga studios, beach bars, and good restaurants serving local and international cuisine. The village is easy to navigate, with a welcoming atmosphere.

Wind Conditions

The wind season in Preá runs from July to January, with the most reliable months between August and December. Average wind speeds range from 20 to 30+ knots, often blowing strongest in the afternoon. The direction is typically side-onshore, making it both fun and safe.

Water Conditions

Expect warm water year-round (27–29°C). The conditions vary with the tide—flat water near the shore at low tide, and choppy or small wave conditions further out during high tide. This mix provides something for every style and skill level.

What Else to Do Besides Kitesurfing

Preá is ideal for relaxing after intense kite sessions. Watch the sunset over the dunes, enjoy a beachside dinner, or take a short trip to Jericoacoara for more nightlife and sightseeing. Horseback riding and buggy tours in the surrounding area are also popular options for rest days.

How to Get There

Preá is accessible via Jericoacoara Regional Airport (JJD), just 15 km away. From the airport, a short transfer brings you directly to the village. Alternatively, Preá can be reached by 4x4 vehicle from Jericoacoara or as part of a multi-spot kite adventure along the Ceará coast, being 284 km away from Fortaleza’s International Airport – a 4-hour drive.
