Closest Kitesurf Spots
Jeri itself is a good place to kitesurf, especially during high tide. However, due to the number of tourists, launching and landing the kite at the central beach is not allowed, so you will have to head a little bit west (about 1 or 2 km) to start – at the area known as the Sunset Dune. The eastern point of the main beach, very close to the center (where launching and landing kites is not allowed), is a very popular spot for windsurfing. Besides that, some of the best nearby spots are Guriú and Tatajuba (about 20–30 km west), offering flat-water lagoons and stunning scenery. Transfers by buggy or 4x4 make these easily accessible, and day trips are a good option for those wanting to kite during the day and enjoy Jeri’s nightlife.
Kitesurfing Conditions for Beginners
Jericoacoara is beginner-friendly, particularly in the calmer waters of Guriú and Tatajuba, where shallow lagoons and flat water create a perfect learning environment. Local kite schools offer certified instructors, ideal for those starting out or looking to improve their skills safely.
Infrastructure
Though small, Jeri offers excellent infrastructure for kitesurfers and tourists alike. You’ll find quality kite schools, gear rentals, beachfront pousadas, boutique hotels, and a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars. The village is car-free, preserving its unique charm—transport is mostly done by foot, dune buggy, or quad bike.
Wind Conditions
Wind is king in Jericoacoara. From July to January, consistent side-onshore trade winds blow between 20 to 30 knots almost daily. These ideal wind conditions make it a prime destination for kitesurfers of all levels.
Water Conditions
The sea near Jeri varies with the tides: at low tide, you’ll find shallow, calm waters—great for freestyle or beginner practice; at high tide, expect choppier waves and more action. Nearby lagoons offer flat water with no waves, perfect for tricks and progression.
What Else to Do Besides Kitesurfing
Jeri is not just about wind and water. Explore the dunes on a buggy tour, watch the iconic sunset, or make a short hike to Pedra Furada, a natural stone arch on the beach. Enjoy capoeira shows, samba, forró, and reggae nights, and the relaxed beach nightlife. Stand-up paddleboarding, horseback riding, and yoga are also popular.
How to Get There
The nearest airport is Jericoacoara Airport (JJD), about 30 km away, with direct flights from major Brazilian cities. Alternatively, travelers can fly to Fortaleza (FOR) and take a 5-hour transfer by road or 4x4.
As part of an environmental protection area, cars are not allowed in Jeri. One must get a transfer from Jijoca and head to the village through the national park, enjoying the amazing view from the dunes and the sea. Also, at the entrance of the village, it is necessary to pay a visitor fee that may vary according to the length of the stay.
