The flat-water area forms between sandbanks and the coast, especially during low tide, while small waves appear farther out during high tide. A short downwinder west of the village will take you to more secluded spots, like Macapá Beach, which offers even more space and flat-water stretches, with a stunning landscape.
Kitesurfing Conditions for Beginners
Barra Grande is an excellent place for beginners. The flat, shallow, and warm waters, combined with steady, side-onshore wind, make it a safe environment for learning. Several kite schools operate in the village, offering group and private lessons with experienced instructors and full gear rental.
Infrastructure
Though it has kept its rustic charm, Barra Grande now offers a solid tourism infrastructure. You’ll find beachfront pousadas, boutique hotels, kite centers, yoga studios, and a growing number of cozy restaurants and bars. Everything is within walking distance, and the town is lit at night by soft lights and a relaxed energy that attracts both kiters and non-kiters alike.
Wind Conditions
The wind season runs from July to January, with Barra Grande enjoying some of the most consistent winds in Brazil. Speeds usually range between 18 and 30 knots, especially strong in the afternoons. The reliable side-onshore direction ensures safety and comfort for kiters at all levels.
