Paracuru

Located 92 km northwest of Fortaleza, Paracuru is a coastal town with around 39,000 inhabitants—slightly larger than most kitesurfing villages in Brazil’s Northeast. While it offers a long stretch of sandy beach, what truly sets Paracuru apart is the diversity and quality of kitesurfing conditions concentrated in one single spot, Quebra Mar.

Closest Kitesurf Spots

The main kite spot is Quebrada Mar, located about 15 minutes east of town. This iconic area lies between reef formations and works well at all tide levels. Closer to the town center, to the west, you'll also find the Curu River estuary, where it's possible to kite during specific hours at high tide.

Kitesurfing Conditions for Beginners

Quebra Mar is an excellent spot for beginners, especially during low tide when flat, shallow water forms close to the shore. Certified kite schools and instructors are available to guide learners in a safe, controlled environment. Meanwhile, more experienced riders can enjoy a range of freestyle and wave-riding options nearby.

Infrastructure

While there are no accommodations directly on the kite beach, Paracuru town offers a range of pousadas, restaurants, and services, although it is not known as a tourist town. At Quebra Mar, a beachfront restaurant and kite center provides ideal support for spending the day, with food, drinks, music, gear storage, and amazing sunset views.

Wind Conditions

Paracuru enjoys strong and consistent wind from July to January, with peak conditions between August and November. Wind speeds typically range from 16 to 30 knots, blowing side-onshore, making it a safe and thrilling destination for all riding levels.

Water Conditions

This spot is known for its variety: flat and shallow water near the shore at low tide is perfect for freestyle or learning; about 100 meters further out, the reef creates excellent waves for kitewave sessions. At high tide, the waves become larger and more exciting, while the inshore water stays moderately choppy but still enjoyable.

What Else to Do Besides Kitesurfing

When you're ready for a break from the water, Paracuru offers dune adventures on horseback or by ATV. It’s also a great place to soak in local culture and enjoy Ceará’s coastal scenery at a slower pace.

How to Get There

Paracuru is easily accessible by car, just a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Fortaleza’s International Airport (FOR). It’s perfect for day trips from Cumbuco or for a few nights of immersion in one of the state’s most versatile kite spots.
